The big Falls Race Festival at Ohiopyle is right around the corner! Epic Prep is hosting a clinic day at Valley Falls, WV the week before the Ohiopyle Festival for those wanting to brush up their skills. Boat demos are also available.
About The Falls Race:
The eleventh annual American Whitewater Ohiopyle Over-The-Falls Festival will be held August 21, 2010. Whitewater paddlers nationwide will gather there to race over the spectacular eighteen-foot waterfall in the picturesque mountain village of Ohiopyle. Spectators are invited to watch paddlers sprint and cartwheel, end-over-end, off the waterfall.
Other event features include the Falls Under Lights, Town Party, Live Music (Halftime String Band), Silent Auction and food booths. The area also offers biking, hiking, camping, magnificent scenery, photographic opportunities, history and cultural activities.

Where: Valley Falls, Fairmont, West Virginia
When: SUNDAY, AUGUST 15 Meet at the Valley Falls parking lot between 10-11 am. Class starts promptly at 11 and goes till the evening.

FREE SUNDAY CLASS WILL RESUME 8/8/2010
We will be at Ohiopyle from now on. Meeting at the Ferncliff parking lot at 11:00 am. Class will run from 11 am - 6 pm
11-2:30 work on the last rapid of the middle yough. Work on Ferries, Leaning, rolling, bow rescues, proper stroke technique, surfing, and more.
3:00 - 6 We will break down every rapid on the loop hopping eddies and learning the basics as we go. All skills will be worked on, with strong emphasis on safety, reading water, eddy turns in turbulent water, wet exits in rapids, whitewater roll, and much more. We will cater the skills taught based upon the needs of the group.

Rocky Mountain Kayak is now on our summer schedule with classes to fit your needs and budgets! We offer classes from age 5 through adult. Please call ahead and let us know your coming so we can be sure to have the equipment you need on hand. Classes are going on now and run through September.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN KAYAK CLASSES
Roll Classes / River Skills
Tuesdays : 5:30 - 8:30
Location : Meet at Greenhouse Park on Tire Hill Road in Johnstown PA.
MUST CALL AHEAD TO ENSURE EQUIPMENT AVAILABILITY.
Join our head instructor Matt Fithian for classes in the beautiful Stonycreek River Watershed. Groups meet every Tuesday, and we will work at both the new kayak park as well as the local rivers and streams in the area. Instruction will include : wet exits, rolling, bracing, eddy turns, ferrys, peel outs, stroke technique, basic surfing skills, and more.
Cost is $25.00 a session which includes rental equipment ( boat,paddle,pfd,spraydeck,helmet). You simply won't find more affordable Kayak classes.
Wednesdays : 5:30 - Whenever
Come join us at the Rocky Mountain Kayak Home Base. We feature a 2.5 acre freshwater spring pond and an incredibly vast selection of boats and equipment for your use. Here at the pond we work on everything you need to get ready for your first whitewater excursion, and we help you work on the skills you need practice on from flatwater playboating moves to backdeck rolls and dufek strokes.

FREE SUNDAY CLASSES AT THE LOWER YOUGH
Location : Meet at Ferncliff Parking lot across from Wilderness Voyaguers in Ohiopyle PA. Be sure to check this site for exact weekly location. With higher water on the yough the location is subject to change.
11:00 - 2:00 : We work above the bridge on the last class II rapid of the middle yough. We work on eddy turns, peel outs, ferrys, bow rescues, wet exits in current, whitewater rolling, basic surfing, scouting rapids and more.
3:00 - ? : We work on the loop and take each rapid step by step breaking the river down into a series of basic moves. Here safety is strictly enforced and our experienced staff and volunteers will have you navigating class III whitewater of the lower yough in safety and control.
Cost : FREE : IF you need rental equipment we can provide all the gear you need for your day on the river for only $25.00. This also gives you a great opportunity to demo one of the dozens of boats in our vast fleet. We carry most major manufacturers.
